Aviation DFCs

Ian.tb
Does anyone have suggestions on resources for aviation-based DFC scenarios? I’d like to introduce some DFCs to help discuss decision making in the cockpit. I’m in a Marine assault support squadron but I’ll take scenarios from any community.

In a related note, I sat in a Case method club class a few years back in Quantico and a Mike company 2ndLt had a pretty good scenario built on a rogue B-52 pilot who wound up plowing his bird into the deck in an air show. Does that presentation still exist somewhere?

The best way to get a good aviation DFC is to make your own.

Here are some articles about ways to do that.

In addition to the sources mentioned in the articles, consider the following books, which are rich in stories suitable for conversion into DFCs.

https://www.amazon.com/Air-War-South-Atlantic-Ethell/dp/002536300X

https://www.amazon.com/Yeager-Autobiography-Chuck/dp/0553256742/

If you e-mail me directly (at decision.forcing.case@gmail.com) I will put you in contact with some people who have developed some good aviation DFCs.

I don't know anything about the actual presentation you saw, but the B-52 mishap you are talking about is probably the 1994 crash of Czar 52.  I first learned of it at an aviation safety course where it was used as a case study in command climate.  A google search will show you plenty of material and images, but the summary I think the Aviation Safety School used is
http://www.cti-home.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/CZAR-52-A-Prelude-to-Disaster.pdf.
I recycled this into a student-led command climate discussion for officers of all services and MOSs at Command and Staff, and I think it worked well.
